The Eagle Has Fallen

There was a time in America’s history when every nation in the world aspired to follow her example. A time when American’s led the way in industry, education, integrity and while she may not have been loved or even liked by some, she was respected by all. Nations from around the world flocked to her doors in search of opportunity, education and wealth… how far the eagle has fallen…

Today’s headlines bare little repeating, the state of the economy need not be addressed, all too well these are known. Who fired the fatal shot that brought our noble symbol of freedom down? Many postulate, some speculate, yet none can say with any degree of certainty what actually occurred to bring us to our current state of being. That state being felt around the world by more than just American’s as we live in a “Global Economy” where the actions of the few effect the many.

So what is known with any certainty? Not much according to the media moguls’ and hawkers of gossip who seem to all point their gnarled boney fingers towards the housing market and mortgage companies. Was it not one of our founding fathers who warned of many of our modern woe’s two hundred years ago?

“I hope we shall crush in its birth the aristocracy of our monied corporations which dare already to challenge our government to a trial by strength, and bid defiance to the laws of our country.”
Thomas Jefferson

With like words of wisdom another predicted our current fate.

“Those who do not remember the past are condemned to repeat it.”
George Santayana

Two men of eloquent words, wise words, words that should have never been far from thought but somehow were lost amid the evening’s entertainment. How short sighted American’s have become, how ignorant of the world around them, once respected, now distained, mocked, and even pitied by some. What has become of the nation we love, where are the boast of national pride, why are some ashamed of what they have allowed America to become. Yes, allowed, by inaction of word or deed we have allowed the assassin to fell the mighty eagle, by inaction we have allowed tyrants to shackle the masses with chains of ignorance, hobbled us with blind subservience and in the end…sold us to the highest bidder.

“None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Lady Liberty weeps for her lost children; her tears have quenched the torch of eternal hope that once lit the way to freedom. The once noble eagle lie dead, the arrow of greed piercing its now still heart.
